OWHA

The Dryden Girls Hockey Association is working on a return to hockey plan as per the directives from Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA)and the City of Dryden Arena Facility.  The 2020-21 season has brought about many challenges which have resulted in additional protocols to be put in place to help ensure the safety of all players and volunteers. The first part of the season will begin with a modified development program focusing on skills development. The plan will be dynamic and change as protocols from the Northwest Health unit, OWHA and City of Dryden change. With the current directive, regular game play, tournaments and any tryouts are NOT permitted by OWHA.

Effective September 1, 2020 OWHA is in stage 3 of the Return to Play Framework. It provides participants the opportunity to register in OWHA/Hockey Canada programming that may include game modified play with rules that remove or avoid physical contact. Safety is the guiding principle for all actions taken by the OWHA and can only be achieved through compliance with government and public health requirements. The following are some key operational guidelines below:

  • Maximum of 30 participants on the ice, including players, instructors,      co aches. (This number could be      decreased depending on facility requirements)
  • Physical distancing required at all times
  • Players will be grouped accordingly and can be involved in an      extended bubble up to a maximum of 50 per group. (Ie. If there was a lower number of      players in a certain division, it is possible that they may be able to be      grouped with other small groups, but still must stay within the 50 maximum      bubble limit)
  • Once the developmental phase has been completed, it is possible that      modified 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 play may occur. OWHA will provide rules for modified game play
  • Depending on ice availability, each player will receive up to 2 ice      sessions per week (Fundamentals may possibly only have one ice session per      week) At this time, the exact start date and specific ice times have not      been determined but it is expected to be mid October.
  • All City of Dryden arena policies must be adhered to. Failure to do so could result in loss of      ice times and denied entrance to the facility.
  • Dryden Ice Arenas visitor screening protocol prior to each event

Please check out owha.on.ca for more information and possible steps for the future. DGHA will provide regular email updates as information or directives are changed.

The following fee structure is based on each division and is based on the assumption that hockey will continue until some time in March. Refunds will be given in the event of a cancellation of the season due to the current pandemic.

*Regular Fees

FUNdamentals $250    Novice - Midget $375

*Sanctioning fee payable to OWHA is flat fee of approx. $50 for insurance per player

** Refund available due to COVID related cancellation

Coaching staff and other volunteers will be needed to help during all stages of development and modified play. Please email drydengirlshockey@gmail.com or contact any member of the executive.

We are all doing our best to try and provide hockey programming for girls in our area. Please be patient as things are changing frequently and we are having to adapt accordingly.
